It started off as a fishing village consisting of two towns namely Pontian Kechil (translated: Small Pontian), which surprisingly is the larger and better-known of the two, and also Pontian Besar or ‘Big Pontian’. They are separated by the Sungai Pontian Besar. Attractions includes nearby places such as Kukup, which is famous for seafood and Tanjung Piai, which is the southernmost point of Peninsular Malaysia and mainland Asia.
